Clinician
Dr. Mimi Guarneri is a highly-respected, engaging Integrative Cardiologist and researcher who is Board-Certified in Cardiovascular Disease, Internal Medicine, Nuclear Cardiology and Integrative Holistic Medicine. Her research has resulted in awards, the development of Integrative Medicine centers and a shift in how medicine is practiced in the U.S.
As a clinician, she is deeply experienced in designing a personal approach to patient health and wellness. She believes in an approach that is personal and pro-active and based on a foundation of prevention. In the forefront of lifestyle medicine, she is a leading proponent of Integrative Health and creates teams of healthcare providers who work collaboratively to heal mind, body and spirit. Dr. Guarneri defines health as more than the absence of disease and believes that it is closely intertwined with the health of our communities and the planet. Her conviction is that high-quality care should be accessible to all and embrace all global healing traditions.
Dr. Guarneri began her career at Scripps Clinic as an attending in interventional cardiology where she placed thousands of coronary stents. Her early research with Dr. Dean Ornish on the benefits of diet, exercise, meditation and yoga brought remarkable health results for her patients. In the 1990s, she became a Principal Investigator and Medical Director for the Dean Ornish Program for Reversing Heart Disease, Multicenter Lifestyle Change Program at Scripps. The remarkable results in patients through this program led her to pursue additional lifestyle change research and biofield research confirming the integral health connection between the mind, body and spirit.
Recognizing the need for a more comprehensive and holistic approach to cardiovascular disease, she founded three significant Integrative Medicine centers and continues to guide large healthcare systems in the development of their own centers. She first founded the Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine (SCIM) in the 1999, where state-of-the-art cardiac imaging technology and lifestyle change programs were merged to aggressively diagnose, prevent and treat cardiovascular disease. She served SCIM for 15 years as Medical Director before creating her private and more expansive integrative health and wellness center in 2014 -- Guarneri Integrative Health, Inc. It is located at Pacific Pearl La Jolla in California where she leads a team of experts in conventional, natural and integrative medicine. As Senior Advisor for the Chamber Center for Wellbeing, she helped create and launch Atlantic Healthcare System’s New Jersey integrative health and wellness center in 2014.
In addition to Integrative Cardiology at Guarneri Integrative Health, Inc., her center features a unique collaborative approach to personalized patient care, combining both medical doctors and naturopathic doctors for comprehensive wellness assessments. It is the only medical center where MDs and NDs work side-by-side for a collaborative patient-centered approach to health creation. Visit Guarneri Integrative Health, Inc. at Pacific Pearl La Jolla.
